Leafing through the pages of a catalogue of 19th-century military uniforms found in the Emile Hermès collection, Virginie Jamin was struck by the power of the designs. This scarf takes its name from the uniforms of zouaves – North African light infantry units in the French Army – and dragons, or dragoons in English – cavalry soldiers who fought on foot or horseback.

Revealed by a hand-woven jacquard weave, the graphic motifs of this line of cashmere blankets and cushions are inspired by a 1929 Hermès advertising poster. Refined and stylized by the Hermès design studio, it became the H Drapeau design, while its graphic and colorful lines are reminiscent of the emblematic Avalon blanket. The composition of the drawing and juxtaposed lines reinforces the interplay of colors and contrasts to give the appearance of a superimposed material.

This scarf was inspired by a peddling album in the 19th century, stored in Émile Hermès' collection. Printed on Hermes iconic cashmere and silk material, this giant scarf is supple, light and easy to wear. It’s the ideal companion for wrapping up on cold days.
