An Introduction to Loewe Squeeze Bag
Debuted on the FW23 runway, the Loewe Squeeze bag is LOEWE’s new statement bag. Named for its squishy handle, the Squeeze’s distinctive ruched shape is the result of its extraordinarily soft leather and an innovative design process.
Seemingly simple, the Squeeze bag blends traditional craftsmanship with
innovative design research: unlined butter soft nappa leather specially
developed for lightness and durability, a handle designed to ensure a
comfortable carry, and a gold-plated donut chain with a clever system
for adjusting the length.
The bag’s construction showcases the atelier’s craft expertise and
attention to detail, from the inside zipped pocket to the leather piping
that lends structure to the base.
The LOEWE Squeeze bag is a

and its signature donut chain, the LOEWE Squeeze bag is an innovative
hobo style named for its distinctive squishy handle. Each bag is
intensely handcrafted by artisans in soft nappa leather as well as
seasonal materials and a range of classic and seasonal colours.
One of the aspects of Loewe handbags that keeps the brand and its wares at the top of the bag world is the craftsmanship. When it comes to designer bags, consumers are more savvy than ever with the materials and overall feel and quality of the bags they purchase. Loewe always receives top marks, and this bag falls right in line.
How can a handbag look both modern and timeless, trendy and classic? I don’t have the answers, but Loewe sure does. The Squeeze is a relatively simple hobo design but there’s more to it than what first meets the eye. As is their modus operandi, they elevate traditional designs with such innovation and creativity! The bag is crafted from unlined nappa leather which is luxuriously soft and feather light. I want to hug this bag. Ok I did hug it. But it’s also constructed to be durable and last for years to come. The thoughtfully designed handle ensures a comfortable carry, while the pièce de résistance is the gold-plated donut chain, featuring a unique and crafty system for adjusting its length. There are hidden connections in the donut chain allowing you to add an extra length of chain, and a clasp at one end of the chain allowing you to customize the length even further. The bag has an inside zipper pocket and a magnetic closure, a balloon anagram charm along with two sizes, small and medium, from which to choose.
The bag’s namesake references the “squeeze part” of the handle made from flexible materials which are then covered in a layer of spongy padding. And if you’re wondering….“yes,” it’s a little fun to squeeze. I’m not suggesting that you can now throw out your stress balls, but the handle just begs to be squeezed and could hold you over for awhile in a pinch.
Loewe has nine Instagram posts in the last week alone about their new bag, one of which here is solely about the Squeeze handle. I’ve taken absolute delight in the irreverent comments under that post, and on my video. When it comes to JW Anderson’s designs, a sense of humor is required. Pickle, penis… you decide.
One thing I enjoy most about this bag – something that gives it a little attitude but also its allure – is that it practically refuses to be defined by a specific category. I can almost hear Patrick Swayze saying, “Nobody puts Squeeze Baby in the corner!” It could be an everyday bag, or one worn for a special occasion. It’s elegant and refined but has enough of the attention-grabbing hardware that it would also appeal to a buyer who prefers a little sparkle, a little eye-candy for everyone to enjoy. It’s the equivalent of a little black dress accompanied by some real bling. As if that’s not versatile enough, with its adjustable shoulder strap, the bag is going to check the boxes for those who want to hold the bag, carry it on their shoulder or wear it crossbody. Whether it’s clothes or accessories, most pieces readily declare, “I’m not for everyone.” Well, the Squeeze bag might just be.
